Outcome of the Innovation Challenge P3Dx announced

In January 2025, TNO launched the Innovation Challenge P3Dx. Its goal was to develop lab-independent tests — fast, flexible, and broadly deployable — that are valuable not only for pandemic use but also in other domains such as agriculture and horticulture, the environment, and wider healthcare. The outcome of the Innovation Challenge P3Dx is now known: five applicants are receiving an offer to carry out their proposals for decentralised test innovations. The P3Dx team congratulates Rapidemic BV, Nostics BV, Vysens BV, CC assured BV, and the consortium of QVQ together with Utrecht University on their successful proposals and pitches.

The Innovation Challenge P3Dx looked for innovative solutions that:
✅ Make lab-independent tests better, faster, and more affordable
✅ Build a robust value chain — from manufacturing through to data delivery
✅ Make society more resilient to pandemic threats

The challenge's evaluation team reviewed the eleven submitted proposals and advised that five of them be awarded a contract. With these awards, the available budget of one million euros has been fully used.

The awarded projects cover a diverse set of innovative solutions for decentralised testing at different stages of development. Several breakthrough technologies — including Raman spectroscopy, CRISPR-Cas, and synthetic antibodies — form the basis of these solutions. They focus on detecting pathogens and, in some cases, on measuring the immune response.

P3Dx stimulates multidisciplinary collaboration. With the awards of this Innovation Challenge, a start has been made on building an innovation ecosystem for diagnostics startups. The awarded parties are expected to take an active role in that ecosystem.

We wish the awarded parties every success in advancing their innovations and look forward to inspiring knowledge exchange within the P3Dx network.

The award decision was signed by Marjoleine van der Zwan, Director of TNO Healthy Living and Work, in the presence of P3Dx programme lead Bart Keijser.
